Building Efficiency System Tool
The Hydronics Industry Alliance – Commercial (HIA-C) Building Efficiency System Tool™ (BEST) featuring Building Energy Efficiency Ratings (BEER), based on actual system performance data, outputs annual energy consumption and life-cycle cost comparisons for your building’s HVAC system in just minutes!

This free tool has many adjustable inputs, which building owners, designers, and contractors can use to model any building in any location. Simply enter the square footage, number of stories, the nearest city for local weather data, and choose up to four HVAC systems – from more than 30 pre-loaded systems to compare. The tool uses AHRI-certified performance data and new BEER to model the HVAC system as it will operate in real life – not the test lab.

Compare Systems On the Fly
The Building Efficiency System Tool™ saves you time by allowing you to compare up to four different HVAC systems configurations on the fly during the design process. The interactive tool eliminates recalculation time for changes to allow you to quickly and easily compare HVAC system operating and life cycle costs at the beginning of a project.

Published test data doesn’t always equal actual performance. The BEST uses Building Energy Efficiency Ratings (BEER), based on actual system performance data, to output fast efficiency comparisons, and uses real cost data from more than 50 HVAC contractors to output accurate cost estimates for early HVAC system comparison.

What you input:
Location of building, size of building, and number of floors. Then select up to four HVAC systems to compare side-by-side.

What the BEST outputs:
Installation cost, replacement cost, maintenance cost, monthly energy cost, electrical and fossil fuel consumption costs, total system life cycle cost, cumulative life cycle cost by year, system payback time, pump and fan HP, system coefficient of performance (COP), and more.
